Although I was undertrained going into this event, it was a blast to do. The volunteers on the course were absolutely wonderful - lots of energy and fun! The course was definitely well-marked. And you cannot beat the scenery of Nisene Marks. I didn't care so much about running on the road in the start, but was glad for it at the end (easier).
Next year - I will make sure I train for extended hill climbing so I won't take so long on the first half of the course. Even when I hit the very slight inclines and flats, I was so pooped, walking seemed hard. My usual pre-race meal didn't work for me this time, so I was under-nourished as well. Still - I finished! And it was a fun race to do, despite my personal set-backs going in.
Things that helped during the race - the great energy of the volunteers; electrolyte tabs every hour, Gu on the course was great - I'll need to pack two mini bottles next time (instead of one); and I had plenty of energy drink and water.
Loved having sliced oranges at the end of the race and also the Bare Naked Granola treat with yogurt and blueberries was a very welcome treat. Real food at the end is a great thing!
Loved the race experience! Definitely will do again next year.
This was a great race! The course was incredibly hard because of hills, creek crossings and sharp turns but absolutely beautiful. The directors did a great job of marking the course and putting people out on the course to tell you where to go and what to expect next. I will definitely do this race again next year! I would say there were only 2 problems. 1: with 300 women they need more than 4 bathrooms at the start. 2: The sound system had to be kept pretty quite so it was hard to hear the prerace talk and awards.Otherwise thanks for the fun run.
